Unitil Energy Systems, Seacoast Announces 2004 Scholarship Winners

Kensington, NH - August 16 2004 - Unitil Energy Systems, Seacoast area, (UES) a subsidiary of Unitil Corporation (AMEX:UTL) recently announced the four winners of its annual college scholarship fund: Janelle K. Provencher, Christine Williams, Aubrey M. Bond and Lauren J. Belmer.

The UES College Scholarship Fund is comprised of four $500 scholarships, awarded to one student in each of the four high schools in the UES Seacoast service territory. Financial need, good academic performance and strong character are the criteria used to determine the winners of the scholarship. The UES College Scholarship Fund is funded by employee payroll contributions, and the Company's Community Development cash donations program.

"The employees of UES Seacoast are putting their money where their mouth is to help support our local students as they embark on their journey to higher education" said Fund chair and UES employee Brenda Babylon. "It just makes you feel good knowing you're helping some deserving students out there turn their dreams into reality."

Janelle K. Provencher graduated from Exeter Area High School in June. She plans to attend Stonehill College in the fall where she will major in psychology. She hopes to pursue a career in the field of child psychology or possibly social work. During her four years at EAHS Janelle served as class president during both her junior and senior years, was a member of the National Honors Society, and participated in several extracurricular activities and sports including both Latin and Spanish clubs, softball, and volleyball. She also volunteered time to such activities as the Cinderella Dress Drive, Special Olympics, the Red Cross, and various church activities.

Christine Williams will be attending the University of New Hampshire in the fall where she will be studying business management. She graduated from Sanborn Regional High School in June. Her hope is to earn a specialized degree in restaurant/hospitality management and one day either own her own restaurant or manage a large hotel. During her four years at Sanborn, Christine was active in sports playing both varsity soccer and varsity basketball. She managed to maintain an excellent grade point average while juggling both sports and a part-time job.

Aubrey M. Bond,a recent graduate of Timberlane Regional High School, plans to attend Columbia International University in the fall where she will major in elementary education. She also plans to be involved in the field of youth ministries. During her four years at Timberlane, Aubrey has been involved in several extracurricular and volunteer activities, some of which include Big Buddy/Little Buddy, Mealey's Meals, volunteering in the art program of the Southern District YMCA and vacation bible school mission trips to Haiti.

Lauren J. Belmer is a June graduate of Winnacunnet High School She will attend Smith College where she plans to major in political science. Her career goal is to be involved in government in some way. During her four years at Winnacunnet Lauren has served as vice president of National Honors Society, treasurer of her senior class, captain of the soccer and softball teams, and been involved in many other extra-curricular activities. Her senior year Lauren was entered into the Scholastic Art Association competition where she received a Gold Key for New Hampshire. At the national level, her work was chosen to be among the works of the 500 winners from 15,000 entries to hang in a special exhibit at the Corcoran Gallery in Washington, DC, thereby becoming the first Winnacunnet student to be so honored.
