Hampton, NH - (April 23, 2007): Unitil Corporation (AMEX:UTL) announced today that its Massachusetts subsidiary filed changes in its Basic Service energy prices with the Department of Public Utilities. These proposed changes are expected to take effect June 1, 2007.
A typical residential customer using 500 kWh per month will see their bill decrease from $106.35 to $96.76, or 9%. Other customers will see decreases ranging from 2 to 11% based on rate class and usage. The decrease is due to lower wholesale supply costs for the summer period. The change in rates applies to Basic Service customers only and does not affect customers who have a competitive electric generation supplier.
Basic Service is provided to customers who do not have their own retail competitive electricity supplier. This service is procured through a competitive bid process, and the resulting prices are passed through to customers without profit or mark up from the local distribution company. Basic Service prices change for residential and small to medium business customers every six months and every month for large business customers.
