Hampton, NH - (August 18, 2005): Unitil Corporation (AMEX:UTL) announced that its Massachusetts subsidiary filed new electric tariffs with the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Energy (MDTE) that reflects the end of the Seabrook Amortization Surcharge and a corresponding change in transition service charges, effective October 1, 2005.
There will be no bill impact for residential customers. Other rate classes will see slight changes in their bills of approximately one percent, up or down, depending on rate class and usage.
This rate adjustment was filed as part of the implementation of the settlement agreement between Unitil, the Massachusetts Attorney General, the Associated Industries of Massachusetts, and the Low-income Weatherization and Fuel Assistance Program Network that was approved by the MDTE in May 2005. Under the agreement, Unitil agreed that during 2005 it would adjust transition rates to recover remaining costs associated with electric restructuring only when there was a mirroring decrease in other rate components.
Unitil Corporation (AMEX:UTL) at www.unitil.com is a public utility holding company with subsidiaries providing electric service in New Hampshire, electric and gas service in Massachusetts and energy services throughout the Northeast.
