Unitil Files Electric Rate Decrease for Large Business Customers

07/24/2006

Hampton, NH - (July 24, 2006): Unitil Corporation (AMEX:UTL) announced today that its Massachusetts subsidiary filed revised Basic Service electric energy prices for its large business customers with the Massachusetts Department of Telecommunications and Energy. The new prices are based on a recently completed competitive bidding process for wholesale electric energy supply and are expected to be in effect September through November 2006.

Large business customers who remain on Basic Service supply from Unitil will see average bill decreases of about 5-7%, reflecting a drop in electricity supply costs since last June. Three quarters of Unitil's large business customers in Massachusetts procure their own competitive energy supply, and they will not be affected by the change in Basic Service prices.

The monthly Basic Service prices are as follows:

  September   $0.08736/kilowatt-hour
  October   $0.09367/kilowatt-hour
  November   $0.09820/kilowatt-hour

Basic Service is provided to customers who do not have their own retail competitive electricity supply. These services are procured through a competitive bid process and the resulting prices are passed through to customers without profit or mark up from the local distribution company. Basic Service prices change for residential and small to medium business customers every six months and every three months for large business customers.
