Unitil Requests Increase in Electric Distribution Rates

11/07/2005

Hampton, NH - (November 7, 2005): Unitil Corporation (AMEX:UTL) announced today that its New Hampshire subsidiary filed a request with state regulators to increase its electric distribution charges. The filing will be subject to a comprehensive regulatory review in a proceeding that could take up to one year.

The proposed increase is designed to provide additional revenues in support of the Company's distribution investments and operations and is unrelated to energy supply. Overall, the request would increase revenues by $4.65 million annually, or 2.9%. The impact on specific customers and customer segments will vary - the projected average increase for residential customers would be 5.1% of the total bill. The filing complies with all regulatory requirements and includes rate design studies and proposals to mitigate earnings attrition.
