February 16, 1999; Fitchburg, MA - When Unitil/Fitchburg Gas & Electric Light Company (FG&E) recently renovated its facility, the surplus office furniture, worth approximately $7,500, was donated to the Montachusett Opportunity Council (MOC) Elderly Nutrition Program. It was a perfect situation for everyone - MOC received desperately needed office furniture, and the employees of FG&E gladly provided assistance to the community they serve.
"FG&E really came through for us. This helps to ensure that our funds go directly to our programs, rather than to cover administrative costs. Plus, in the past, we’ve had a mishmash of office furniture. With the donation of the filing cabinets, desks and chairs, we can not only improve the looks of the office, but we can also improve our filing system," said Mary Giannetti, Program Director.
Unitil CEO/Chairman Robert G. Schoenberger says his company was proud to help out. "We believe in corporate citizenship. We are always looking for ways in which we, as a company, can give back to the community. This donation of furniture to the MOC Elderly Nutrition Program underscores that commitment."
The purpose of the MOC Elderly Nutrition Program, based in Fitchburg, MA, is to provide older Americans, particularly frail elderly and those with low incomes, with low-cost nutritionally sound meals. This program is aimed at promoting better health and reducing the isolation of old age, offering older Americans the opportunity to live their remaining years in dignity.
